If change and growth are not programmed into your spirituality, if there are not serious warnings about the blinding nature of fear and fanaticism, your religion will always end up worshiping the status quo and protecting your present ego position and personal advantage—as if it were God!
Richard Rohr, Falling Upward
The irony of our time is that the phrase on those hats, “Make America Great Again” were prophetic four years ago. The problem is that Americans don’t seem to understand that greatness is not self-declared. Greatness can be aspirational but for it to be so requires an understanding of how others define greatness.
On the eve of America’s anniversary—our two hundred and forty-fourth—much of the world believes that the country is racist, battered and bruised. “Europe has long been suspicious—even jealous—of the way America has been able to pursue national wealth and power despite its deep social inequities,” Robin Niblett, the director of the Royal Institute of International Affairs, also known as Chatham House, in London, told me.
It’s one o’clock on a Saturday, first Saturday of the month.
If you want to hang on to the past you must also take responsibility for the past.
Using Chrome on Chrome OS tablet mode makes me wonder whether anyone at Google even uses this configuration. Why no gestures to move between tabs?
I got a Lenovo Duet Chromebook today that I am trying out now with this post. It is interesting to use as a tablet because it is a rectangular shape rather than square and so it’s much longer in portrait mode than I’m used to in a tablet. Rather than type this with the on-screen keyboard I’m using the voice to text recognition that is working very well.
I’ve made two purchases from Best Buy online since COVID-19, which is a bit unusual because I normally order from Amazon. What I am even more surprised by is that I prefer Best Buy’s shipping because they use UPS. I find Amazon’s in-house delivery random and unpredictable where as UPS deliveries are part of a regular route by the same guy at nearly the same time. Further, they provide GPS tracking of the delivery truck so I can see where my package is in route to my house on the day of delivery, which enables me to be ready to receive the package so it isn’t waiting outdoors. I also get text messages of the delivery status. Amazon provides notices but no real tracking. Further, since Amazon delivery is random, packages can end up in all sorts of strange places. Amazon saves money, but I find their customer service has taken a hit in the process.
It’s a bad weather in a Bermuda way today.
So Frank, what are you doing on your vacation?
- Not work
- Be outdoors as much as possible
We live in a large condominium that has plenty of green belts and trees, and that is what I like most. I can walk for miles, which I try to do every day.
Not Folgers in this cup, but the caffeine is the same.
Enjoying that start of a four day weekend. Temperatures are destined to be in he 90s but right now it is cool in the shade and not a cloud in the sky.
Microsoft pledges to upskill 25 million workers for the ‘COVID-19 economy’
The COVID-19 economy?
I don’t know why Fauci goes to the Senate, it’s not like they are going to do anything or provide any leadership.
The U.S. is “going in the wrong direction” with the coronavirus surging badly enough that Dr. Anthony Fauci told senators Tuesday some regions are putting the entire country at risk — just as schools and colleges are wrestling with how to safely reopen.
Incompetency is demonstrated as much by what one does not do as much as one does. At this point in time I think because Republicans have not started whole sale jumping ship from Trump demonstrates a lack of competency. I understand the thinking they don’t want to repeat the 1980 Democrat Primary in which Ted Kennedy challenged their incumbent POTUS candidate, Jimmy Carter, but their current course of path is more damaging. At this point in the past the party would have split, with a new, party formed supporting a more viable candidate.
The most dangerous thing about Republicans right now is their complete denial and delusion about the current situation. How can you trust a Republican for any public office? The problem is not just Trump, the whole party has gone over the cliff with him, and that means something!
Twelve years ago I wrote about trying the beta of Evernote and the Asus Eee PC. Evernote still exists and I still use it. Netbooks don’t exist in name, but in function have been replaced by smartphones, tablets, Chromebooks, and low cost Windows PCs.
It seems like outlining and outliners is a recurring theme. Three years ago I wrote about how I much I like outliners and thus keep looking for “perfect app.” Right now I am using Little Outliner, Dynalist, and Roam. Each have their imperfections. I read through the Gruber’s twitter thread that Dave linked to yesterday and it is a surprise how few people understand what is a true outliner app.
Normal for now in Michigan appears to be between 200 and 300 new COVID-19 cases per day and between 15000 and 20000 COVID-19 tests per day. We will see ongoing hot spots where people congregate in places like bars. The question is whether we can sustain these levels for the next 2 to 3 years as that is how long it will take to get a vaccine and get enough people to take the vaccine.
I am holding my breath a bit as Dave starts making changes to Radio3. I feel like I am the only person who actually uses Radio3, and it is a critical part of my daily web flow.
